its a great book,clear and lucid explanation.content wise very much satisfactory.examples are great.i would surely recommend it for beginners or anyone struggling to understand topics such as semaphores,multithreading,mutex,shared memory,linux shell scripting.the previous edition had a chapter on device drivers,which had been omitted in this edition.nevertheless one can get the ebook of the previous edition.

if you are looking at this book.. then surely you know something abot linux and want to know something more... and you should be comfortable with some terminologies.

4. IPC, Sytem Programming (user Space) 8.5/10
5. Gnome using GTK+ 8/10
6. KDE using QT. (not much of a KDE fan, so i didnt read it)

To start with an Computer Career, Linux is must to learn. So get the hands on it as its has basic to basics examples of Linux Programs with example in it. But you should have to get to this.
Note:Better to learn some C and(or) C++ for betterment for you.

A good book on Linux environment along with C implementation.Process and Thread programming concepts are also included and explained well. Shell script well explained.

Pages and print quality is bad.

I read the book its must have book.
But the quality of pages is very poor. One should have to take extra care of It.
I received this book from WsRetails they are selling pirated books because i went to market an compare it with the one which i received.
Even a blind can say its pirated while touching the pages. its rough
