Between the Shades of Gray is about the life of Lina, a young girl who has been deported from her native Lithuania. She is being deported to Siberia along with her mother and little brother.
Summary of the Book
Lina had been living her sweet life as a young artist when Soviet officers intruded and tore her family away from the life they had always known. They were taken away to Siberia and experienced the most disturbing journey of their lives. Although Lina isn’t sure of when she might see her father and friends again, she never loses hope. She has high hopes for her country, family, life and love. The inspiration of the story were the stories that the author, Ruta Sepetys, heard from survivors of the Genocide of Baltic people.
