    Description
MBA is one of the most sought after courses in India and elsewhere. For those more ambitious and steeling themselves for exposure to the global education system however, the situation is slightly different and Indian applicants are slowly growing more aware of their own handicaps when enrolling elsewhere. The MBA application procedure is an extension of the education process and there are considerable differences between the system in India and abroad. The dynamics and the selection process of top business schools abroad are significantly different from how it is adjudged in India.

Beyond The MBA Hype: A Guide To Understanding And Surviving B-Schools is Kamat's bid to address the gap between the know-how and the realities that are present in the process of applying abroad. The book begins with a treatise exploring the reasons behind choosing MBA as a course. The next few chapters investigates and argues why one should choose a career in management and the opportunities available after completing the course. The author deals with application process where tips to improving the profile of an applicant are laid down along with ways to ace the GMAT and then discusses the skill-gap that is inherent in most students when applying to a prestigious program.

The added benefits that students accrue on account of extracurricular activities and internships are an important facet of the selection process that Kamat pays close attention to through the book. Deciphering the codes embedded within the MBA hype, the book practically equips students with all the technicalities and finer details that help in finding a place in a good Business School. The book also bears the whole truth about the MBA course where classroom involvement and skills are discussed along with the real benefits that students can hope to accrue on completion of their course.

In addition to targeting the wide world of MBA aspirants, Kamat also hopes to include students, corporate professionals and executives who wish to find an all-inclusive look into the world of Business, and the stereotypes and fallacies along with the realities that are all demystified by Kamat in this book. Beyond The MBA Hype: A Guide To Understanding And Surviving B-Schools was featured in The Times of India bestsellers list after being published.

Why MBA ? Answer the question with clarity and confidence

Here I am done with reading your book 'Beyond the MBA hype' a short, sweet and an interesting read :).

I knew about the book sometime back yet I didn't buy it for two reasons :

1.The after-effects of reading 'Managers not MBAs' by Mintzberg. Though the first part of his book was with convincing arguments, the second part does more of a promotion for his version of an MBA program. According to him, I am a wrong candidate, doing MBA at the wrong time and at the wrong place. So I thought I s...

I looked Beyond the MBA HYPE!

    Some background.
-> I was an MBA aspirant and gave the myriad number of exams from CAT to GMAT.
-> Rejected a top Indian college cos I got a great score on my GMAT.
-> Finally decided not to do an MBA and went ahead and started my own business (Sweet 'n' Swirl Ice Creams) ;)

    The actual review:

    Pro's:
-> A simple and fast read, to the point and informative.
-> In-expensive, costs as much as a coffee but definitely worth much more!
-> A go to guide before you plan on doing an MBA.

    Excellent Guide for prospective MBAs

This book is an excellent guide for anyone who is thinking about an International MBA. It is very insightful and more importantly honest about everything associated with an international MBA. Despite the fact that the author himself can be identified as a stakeholder in the MBA industry, he has refrained from presenting an over-optimistic view about what a international MBA means for an individual. Whether you are confused about when, how and why to apply to b-schools or about what you can ex...

A great De-motivator in your MBA journey

Do not follow everything that is mentioned in the book. The content of the book are the author's opinion. Studying abroad is always a good option if you are getting admitted to a good b-school. I read this book and I took nearly 2 weeks to recover from the depression that the book created inside me.

    Mere Hype

Couple of years back i decided to do an MBA, but was not sure of which way to take, either full time or part time. I was doing analysis about MBA programmes, then accidentally i came across this book.I was enthusiastic that i may get lot of insights about MBA programmes, but this book turned out to be a dud. This book may help freshers or people who have zero idea about MBA programmes. If you have enough time to do some research in google, then you can very well skip buying this book.

    WYSIWYG

It is usually said that one should not judge a book by its cover. But with Sameer Kamat's "Beyond the MBA Hype", what you see is what you get: A simply written, no-nonsense guide to demystifying B-schools. And as promised, a time and money saver.
For people just starting the process of appying to schools, probably the most helpful feature (and I say "feature" beacuse the book is actually a tool to be used) is the content in Appendix-D. It really helps in understanding what schools to apply t...

    MBA Myths clarified...

Firstly, a big thanks to Sameer for writing out such a wonderful book. I'll confess that I do not fancy reading books a lot & I haven't read a book completely in the last few years. But this book caught my interest from the very first chapter, due to the lively manner in which it kicks off.

Like most MBA aspirants even I had a lot of questions about schools, application process, job prospects etc. So went through many forums & blogs online, but most of them seem to talk about stuff either fr...

A practical guide for any MBA aspirant

With a reference to Sachin on the very first page,Sameer instantly connects with his readers. He maintains this connect throughout the book by taking us through the journey of a fictional MBA aspirant 'Mitu' . Many an MBA aspirant will be able to relate to this as they would have been in similar situations. The book has a very 'Chetan Bhagat' feel to it in the way it handles the entire 'phoren MBA' process and reading the whole book is a rather enjoyable affair.

Key takeaways from the book inc...
