    Flipkart Official Review

The Mahabharata has been written about through the eyes of many characters – Draupadi, Karna, Arjun, and perhaps many more. Bhima is one character which only is seen as someone physically strong adding to nothing else in the epic tale. “Bhima” by M.T. Vasudevan Nair was first written in 1984, and now translated by Gita Krishnakutty is a brilliant retelling of the epic war from Bhima’s eyes.

“Bhima: Lone Warrior” takes into account Bhima’s life as a person – of the insecurities as a child, of forever trying to please Draupadi, of trying to constantly prove himself amongst the other four brothers. The book is a whole new look at the Mahabharata – it is of a warrior who could not have been defeated, who killed thousands and yet survived to tell his tale. Bhima is intriguing and a fast-paced read. The translation is perfect and every aspect of the story falls into place. A must read for mythology lovers.

The book is about Bhima, one of the four brothers in the Mahabharata who plays a crucial role, and his constant need to prove himself. It is about the feelings of insecurity of the great warrior Bhima.

    Summary of the Book

Bhima is one among the four brother in the Mahabharata who is known for his superb skill as a warrior. However, as much as he tries to impress Draupadi and everyone else, he is still only the second best. The book talks about his insecurities and his unique ability to be able to have an understanding of the people he meets. He has slain many enemies and fought for the good, but is still not recognized and given the credit he feels he should get. He has always been a loner who has faced the hatred of the Kauravas and mixed emotion of love and contempt from his brothers. This book gives a whole different view on one of the greatest wars that was ever fought, the Mahabharata.

Honest outlook at the classic epic !!

A very good transformation of the epic Mahabharata. A different view at the classic taking out the supernatural element was a pleasant surprise. The narration was quite pacey, and you cannot get yours hands off the books unless it had finished. Hat's off to Mr. Vasudevan for the commendable work.

Good translation of a classic from Malayalam

Almost a classic of Malayalam, MT 's rendering of the tale of Mahabharatha through the self -effacing viewpoint of Bhima has been translated rather well. One does get the feeling at times that perfection could have come if the translator used some of her flair in writing to deviate and improve upon the original story. The vernacular names used in many instances is that which perhaps only a Malayali is familiar with and a better option would have been the Hindi equivalent. But altogether...

    Bhima's viewpoint

The story of Mahabharata told from Bhima's viewpoint. Bhimsen by Prem Panicker is still my favourite. This is very similar. The story delves into the Epic but the myth is stripped away. People appear with their flaws and society with its shortcomings. Read it.

    Randhamoozham-Not much lost in translation

I ordered this book yesterday and got it today morning.Excellent service from Flipkart.

About the book.It is a herculean task to translate a masterpiece in a regional language ,which was created by a master craftsman. It becomes doubly challenging when the work itself is based on the biggest epic in the world.

The author Gita Krishnankutty has done an outstanding job in translating the same. The core essence of the MT way of story telling is not lost much. That is the biggest achievement. The ...
