  • Description

Big Girl by Danielle Steel narrates the tale of two very different sisters and their relationship as the older sister struggles to please her family as well as overcome her own issues.

    Summary Of The Book

Danielle Steel’s Big Girl starts off with the introduction of the average-looking and overweight Victoria. Despite being bright, loving, and caring, Victoria faces constant criticism from her parents. Growing up she tries hard to keep her parents happy but their narcissism and obsession with money hinders them from seeing Victoria beyond her unappealing appearance.

With the birth of the second child, Grace, Victoria is pushed further into the backdrop. Grace embodies everything that Victoria does not. The parents play favorites all through their childhood and adult life. Yet, the narrative discloses the caring nature of Victoria who is never once overcome with jealousy. In fact, she is highly protective of Grace.

Despite establishing herself in New York, Victoria constantly struggles to gain approval from her parents. She gets psychiatric help for her eating and weight issues, as food is her only solace. Grace, on the other hand, gets engaged to a dominating and wealthy man.

Victoria is left with two choices, to let Grace marry her fiance and concentrate on her own issues or to protect her sister from making the biggest mistake of her life. Big Girl primarily deals with family and friendship. Victoria must decide who or what is most important in her life.
