Fantastic Writer

This is my first Manto's book and it has been a fantastic read. I can strongly argue, he is among the best short story writer that I have read. His famous sarcastic story "Toba Tek Singh" has the finest meaning of Partition in life of common people.

The book strikes a deep chord

The book has short stories and poems beautifully structured that jerk you back to the reality and poignant brutality of colonial and post colonial India.
Some pieces make your skin tingle with the simple eloquence with which the violence of that period have been described. Others will surely wring tears because the author has the uncanny knack of placing himself with respect to his subjects much like a master photographer seeks to get the best composition.

my review

A good book for one of the greatest short story writers, arguably the O henry of Asia. The book is a decent collection of short stories with decent translation into English. the best part being memoirs and character sketches of Manto. Its fascinating indeed.

Excellent

Manto is someone who weaves a magic around you.Grim but catchy, sarcastic yet sadistic nature of the society comes in front of your eyes. The surprising part is the translation. The translator has successfully presented the stories in their same colours. A must read for booklovers
