A blogger's book

I have been reading "Bong Mom's cookbook" the blog, for past six years. It is really good to see that the blog has finally taken shape of a book. I believe, the disciplined and dedicated approach of the author made this possible. The book, like her blog, is not merely about recipes. It is much more than that. It is the story of every Bengali mother. Rather mothers all over the world would be able to relate.
The anecdot,s, would remind you of chapters from "Jhumpa Lahiri's" books. They are so ...

A must read if you love stories and cooking

Bongmom's cookbook is not like your usual cookbook which you will pick up only when you would want to look up for a particular recipe. Its a book which you can keep reading and not get bored. Its like one of those novels which you can turn to when you long to read one and each time its as exciting as it was the first time you read it. Sandeepa and her short stories from her native land not only share some adventurous insights into hers and her families life but also reminds us of our roots an...

A welcome addition to my cookbook collection

This book makes for great reading. I tend to read fast, but this book made me slow down, dip into it at random, re-read sections. It's extremely carefully written, a true labour of love. It talks about what home means to the non-resident Bengali Indian and contains some very well-written sections about the author's youth and childhood in Bengal. It talks about the various aspects of the Bengali meal, from veg to chutney, and does so with love and careful research. It makes a great gift for so...

Not Only for the Bongs!

Sandeepa is the first and last person whose blog I had followed so ardently ever since it started. So I was thrilled to pre-book her book. I must say not only that she didnt disappoint her fans but also she has gifted the reader fraternity with a gem. Though I am not a Bengali by birth, I am a Bengali in every sense by culture (being brought up in Kolkata). This book has included some of the finest Bengali household cuisines which she has divided into West bengal/East Bengal/Others tweaked by...

Delicious!

The first impression of the book, the cover is enough to catch your eyes. It is a simple one and I love how she carried the essence of her blog on the cover. Kudos to the cover designer who really understood the sentiment of the author and millions of readers like me. The book is divided into ten sections according to the main ingredients. But the main ingredient of the book is BongMom and her love for food and to preserve the recipes of her ma and grandma for the generations to coming. Her w...

Not simply a cookbook

This book is not simply a collection of recipes with some personal anecdotes attached to them. Its a delightful and occasionally hilarious trip down memory lane that anyone away from home can relate to and yes specifically people with their own Bong Moms and Grand moms. A definite buy for people who love food.

Awesome book..with a little disadvantage!

I have been visiting Sandeepa's blog for about 6 years now and her blog gives me that feeling when I'm in the kitchen with my mom and granny, back home. The way she describes each recipe with a brief story makes me nostalgic and reminds me of my Bong connection. I love the way she writes this book. For Bongs, it's not much of a problem as the contents reveal what recipes are included in a particular section..but for non-Bongs, this might be a big prob. Even I feel I should write the recipe l...

A perfectly entertaining treat!

It is supposed to be a cookbook. But it often makes you laugh out loud, often takes you down the memory lane - where you find the similarity with your own past, and of course it often provides you the correct know how to cook authentic, but easy to cook 'bong' or bengali food.

Sandeepa, just like her blog, says - depend on your own intuition or 'andaaz' to measure the ingredients, rather follow the perfection with measuring spoons. Yes, none of our Bong Moms ever used a measuring spoon to pu...
