  • Description

This much-awaited revised edition includes the extensive changes in the scientific and common bird names that have taken place since the last revision in 1996. Following the publication, in 2001, of the list of Standardized Common and Scientific Names of the Birds of the Indian Subcontinent in the Buceros 6 (1), the common and scientific names have been modified based on this list. It is expected that this will provide uniformity in the names used throughout the Subcontinent and outside, and help birdwatchers to communicate better while exchanging their observations. The Alternate Common Names given in the earlier edition have been removed. The Index of common names of species, giving plate and serial numbers, has been replaced with separate Indexes of Scientific and Common names according to page numbers. Minor errors that were overlooked in the earlier edition have also been rectified.

    Th Book of Indian Birds

When i bought this book I though it would contain pictures of the birds and their names. But it contains not only full nomenclature but also family, scientific names and actually how would one recognise the bird - From Feather(plumage), feet, Bills - these determine the kind of food the birds eat and nature of places they have their nests. Amazing, a very good reference book for beginners.
Two words for Flipkart - I was looking for this book for a long time, in various book stores fairs, onl...

Wonderful guide for the novice birder or for anyone with a mild interest

I would put it as just sufficient for starting out. The drawings are perfect with easily identifiable markings/features. It does not overwhelm you with innumerable similar looking birds and you feel quite in contro. And best of all is the language... just apt to describe the relevant features. The description for the common babbler just makes you smile at the precisely put words.Birds of the indian subcontinent by Grimmet and another one by the same name by Kazmierczak are perhaps more popula...

Excellent book for bird lovers - especially beginners

This is a must have book for bird lovers. It is especially useful for beginners but would be useful to all bird watchers. The information provided is absolutely spot on and the pictures make it very easy for you to identify birds - both common and uncommon ones. I've only received the book today and have only skimmed through it so far, but am sure this will be a great companion on all my bird watching trips.

I looked for this book on other sites and in retail stores but found it to be cheape...

    Great book on Indian Birds

If you are really interested in Indian bird....this is the book you must have!!!!!!!!!!!Great pricing considering the quality of binding and paper quality!!!!!!!!!!!
In this edition several new birds are included, but it would really be better if we get pictures of the real bird not the drawing(which is possible for advancement of the photography)
Also I like to thank flipkart for delivering it to me in time.
