    Description

Calico Joe is a novel set in the world of Major League Baseball by John Grisham.

    Summary of the Book

Joe “Calico” Castle was what every baseball star wanted to be. He was the greatest rookie of them all. The young batter from Calico Rock, Arkansas, won the crowd’s hearts as he tipped his hat to them after each home run. He was on the road to glory, fortune and the Baseball Hall of Fame. One fateful day, everything was going to change. Joe stepped up to bat to replace the first baseman of the Cubs AAA affiliate. A kid in the audience watched with anxiety, for Joe was his hero. He was the son of Warren Tracey, the opposite team’s pitcher. The boy watched as his father walked up to the pitcher’s plate. He was at odds with himself: who should he root for, his father or the batter who’d won his heart? Warren sized up his opponent and threw a fastball that would change their worlds forever. Based on true events, this saga of heart-warming justice sets John Grisham in a new genre, one he masters in style and with panache.

    Grisham Strikes Gold.....yet again!

This new book by John Grisham is an absorbing story about a son who tries to reunite two baseball players after a hiatus of 30 years! The catch in the story is that the baseball pitcher who intentionally beanballed and hit a promising young player, Joe Castle alias Calico Joe, on the head and ended his career is his Dad,who is terminally ill and for whom he has no feelings, but as a witness to the game thirty years back, he feels dutibound to bring his father to apologise to Joe, before he di...

    Good, Not Great

the story builds up quite well.the characters are wonderfully crafted. The plot is interesting-Sports rivalry , Cheating , abused childhood and a son trying to "do right" by the sins of his father. The narration is fast and gripping and until the first half ,it holds suspense. But once the reason for the protagonists travel is out,the book meanders towards a well known certainty. You can guess the ending and if you have watched enough hindi TV soaps with your folks..even the last final scene. ...

    very touching!

When u start reading this book pl go thorugh the basic rules which the author has tried to explain in the beginning and understand them because if u dont then u will get lost in the baseball language in the rest of the book... in the beginning its all about a player called joe calico who was the next big thing in baseball but the actual story starts when the author narrates the history and why calico's career was cut short...
It is a book which shows us the level at which a parent can go to g...

    Simple novel, good read

Calico Joe is a very simple novel, unlike what he usually writes: full of twists and turns. Grisham is a master of writing thrillers, most especially legal thrillers. I liked this novel for its simple plot and the story of redemption and forgiveness that runs through it like a warm sunshine on a wintry day.

    Beautiful Life Teachings

This novel narrates some beautiful teachings of life. This isn't related strongly to baseball & you would be fine if you don't even knew ABC's of the game just like me. The buildup to the climax is impressive & the climax will surely set you thinking about your life & your outlook towards your life.

    Not upto the mark

This novel is entirely different from other grisham's novel. U can read this novel for time pass. It's a normal story. But the brief introduction given by the author for Baseball is pretty amazing :) ......................................................................

    Baseball basics

The book is a very good short summary on baseball basics. The rules of the game have been explained in a layman manner. Crux is the eventual meeting between the pitcher and the striker after 30 years. Nicely laid short story.

    Calico Joe - Review

This book is different from the books that I read from the author John Grisham. This book revolves around the son, father and the title character Calico Joe. This really portrays different emotions of human beings, particularly sports persons. For the followers of John Grisham this is different side of the author for different set storyline. Happy Reading
