When little Pinky Chaddha flunks the nursery entrance exams of Bangalore’s snootiest school, her hyper-ambitious parents hire the one man who can secure her admission – Mr Chatterjee sole proprietor of The Chatterjee Institute of Detection and Crime Fighter for the Common Man. But Sister D’Souza, the school’s headmistress is a Machiavellian adversary and soon Mr Chatterjee is on the run, pursued by villainous policemen with arresting moustaches. To survive, he must uncover the mysterious secret that the Sister has so carefully concealed from prying eyes. Unfortunately, time is not on his side… worse still, his personal assistant, the utterly inept Miss Jolly is…

    About the Author :-

Nilanjan P. Choudhury’s debut novel Bali and the Ocean of Milk received wide critical acclaim and was a brief best-seller.   This is his second novel and the first adventure in the Chatterjee Institute of Detection series. He confesses to having studied at IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Kanpur and hopes that this will not be held against him. He lives in Bangalore with his wife, a daughter, a mother-in-law, a day job in the IT industry and a home loan. It’s a wonder he manages to write anything at all apart from EMI cheques. He can be reached at www.nilanjan.net

Another good laugh set in Bangalore

Nilanjan has done it again. He has shown the ability to laugh at himself, at his characters who seem believable while still being slightly Wodehousian in their ability to make you gasp and at the situations they seem to get themselves in. In this book, Nilanjan has shifted the setting from the ocean of milk, Amaravati and kingdom of the Asuras to Bangalore, no less replete with magical characters. I don’t know if Chatterjee is how Nilanjan sees himself twenty years down the line, once he has ...

THE FUNNIEST BOOK I READ IN SOMETIME

What a refreshingly funny and thrilling book! It’s plot is adrenaline-rushing, gritty, rousing and fast-paced, just the way a thriller should be, taking you through unsuspected twist and turns, double chases, masquerades, red herrings, cliffhangers and the works; There’s not a quiet moment. And if you are trying to catch your breath it is because its rip-roaring humour keeps you in splits. Be cautioned though, if you are reading this while waiting for a bus, train or a flight, you are sure t...

    Good read

Succint, funny with a touch of thrill are words that come to my mind as I put down the book that documents the first (hopefully) of the many exploits of Mr. Chatterjee. The book makes for easy reading and can be finished in 2-3 hours. Bengaluru lovers will recognize many of the landmarks of Bengaluru wonderfully woven into the story. Look forward to reading more in this series.

Welcome to the Chatterjee Institute of Detection and some serious laughter therapy !

The Case of the Secretive Sister was an enjoyable, hilarious, suspense-filled roller coaster ride through the streets of Bangalore. Mr. Chatterjee, our homegrown Bengali Mma Ramotswe , takes on the daunting assignment of getting little Miss Pinky Chaddha admitted into a top-ranking convent school headed by the formidable Sister D’Souza. Nilanjan Choudhury does a wonderful job of taking us through the adventures of Mr. Chatterjee and introducing us to a host of interesting characters –the Ch...

A free flow story line with lots of surprises and and humorous moments.

All major characters in this book are migrants to Bangalore, which is a true reflection of a modern cosmopolitan city. Thus, they have unique characteristics based on their regional or socio-cultural background. The main character of this book detective Mr. Chatterjee unwillingly took a mission to facilitate nursery admission of a little girl into a reputed convent school in Bangalore. However, there are many dramatic and hilarious moments where both Mr. Chatterjee and Sister D'Souza - the sc...

The Case of the Secretive Sisters

I must thank my stars that I picked up this book. An absolute readers’ delight, the book kicked off right into a Harry Potter scenario leaving me wondering about what was going to unravel. Nilanjan Choudhury has put together a nice piece interweaving suspense with a dash of humor and has created characters that you can relate to. Mr. Chatterjee seems like your next door retired uncle and Eunice D'Souza is a straight copy of the School Principal.

The plot and the language ensured that I coul...

    Don't read it on a weekday ....

At first, let me (or “I” according to Mr. Chatterjee .. lol!) admit the mistake of starting reading the book on a innocuous weekday. My initial thought was to complete it in “due” course of time. The way I used to read over days and weeks. But man, that was a complete shocker! I just could not stop reading till the end. Why? Because the story was amazing, awesome, funny, hilarious, humorous, satirical, thrilling and with full of suspense. It reminded me of “Delhi Belly”. The story has a pace ...

Keep Cool and Don't Lose Your Shirt

Nilanjan's first book was a rip rollicking irreverent mythological drama. His second book is quite a turn, but stays close to his forte of fiction.
Mr Chatterjee is a retired widower and decides he wants to become a private detective, and unimaginatively christens his one-man firm the 'Chatterjee Institute of Detection'? The only worthwhile case he gets is that from Mrs Pammi Chaddha, a loud Punjabi - but I repeat myself - who wishes desperately for her daughter, Aisharadhya, to get into the...
