Summary Of The Book

Siddhartha Kumar seems to have everything one can want in life. A good job, a wonderful wife, all the luxuries a high ranking executive in an international corporation gets, and more. So, why would he go chasing Maya?

Maya means illusion, something unreal and ephemeral. Everyone chases a few illusions in their life. In Chasing Maya, Siddartha certainly does so. There comes a period in his life when he sinks into apathy, his work, his family, his friends, his career, nothing seems interesting anymore and nothing can satisfy him.

Something keeps gnawing at him, an image from the past. He feels compelled to track it and pin it down, otherwise, he would never find peace. So, much to the dismay of his family and friends, he sets off to find it.

Siddhartha had thought that part of his past was dead and gone, but it reawakens and calls to him. He and Maya were set to spend their life together, but he had to prove himself to her first. But, life, in its usual way, had intervened in their dream, and they had parted ways. He had married Aparoopa and had been happy with his life until now.

He goes back to his native place and then heads to the US to find his Maya. The journey teaches him lessons about life and about the futility of chasing the past. On the way, he finally discovers what he really wants.

Rohan Gogoi was born in 1979 in Nagaon in Assam. He got a degree in economics from Fergusson College, Pune. He then earned an MBA in Marketing and opted for a career in communications. He works for an American company, leading their communications division. His passion for creative writing found expression when he decided to write a novel, Chasing Maya.
