Chennaivasi

This book seems to be more like a movie script :) . It starts well but then the writing seems amateurish at places. Sometimes it felt like reading one of the later books of Chetan Bhagat. This is a very light read, maybe for a journey or something.

Singara Chennai

Very well written, the writer captures the imagination of the reader with his portrayal of apparent modern society coupled with the traditional ones. Anyone who knows the city of Chennai and even feebly connects to the Tamilian culture would find it an amusing read, once you start reading it, wont finish till it completes.

Amazing book, the characters have life, depicts reality, thoroughly enjoyed

The setting of the story, vivid descriptions of chennai, the chennaivaasis are real. A very real depiction of what happens in a conservative, educated families when a foreign bahu arrives. The characters and the novel had life. The book and narrative takes you through arts, life and typical culture of a south indian family. A book to enjoy and preserve.

It takes you through the eyes of vegetarian indian going abroad and what he goes through.

Good read.

If you are from Chennai, you will like this book. If you are tambram, don't miss it. Author brings the smells and sounds of Chennai alive through his narrative. He has done a lot of research about Chennai and Jewish culture. He is not taking sides but just presenting the story. I finished the book in one sitting and enjoyed it.

Not that good !

The book doesn't glorify the values of Chennai the city we all love so much. Instead it just glorifies one particular caste and their struggle to accept reality. Also there is a lot of confusion in going back and forth in time and places. What I liked about this book is the author's grit to combine totally unrelated cultures. Not an enthralling read !
