About A. K. Ramanujan
A. K. Ramanujan was a poet and scholar of Indian literature. He has written in both English and Kannada. He has played different roles including: poet, scholar, author, philologist, folklorist, translator, and playwright. His academic research was done in five languages: Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Sanskrit and English. Ramanujan had published works on both classical and modern variants of these literatures. He was very strong on his stand that local, non-standard dialects get their due. His works are known for exuding originality, sophistication and moving artistry. The poet was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award posthumously in the year 1999 for his collection of poems called “The Collected Poems”.
