Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra is considered the primary work on human sexuality from India. In this translation by Alain Daniélou, readers are reintroduced to the legendary classic which is so much more than a book about sex.
Summary of the Book
Considered to be the teachings of the Bull-God Nandi, learned from watching the Destroyer Shiva in coition with his Divine Consort Parvati, the Kama Sutra is not just a book about sex. The 64 arts, as the classic calls the act of coitus, are just a part of this book which is largely about the duties a husband has towards his wife and the duties a wife has towards her husband. The book explains how a man must select a wife and how to show his affection to her. At length it explains every form of sex that can improve the relation between husband and wife and explains that the marital relations are not just limited to sex. In essence the greatest work on sex teaches us that true love and devotion are the real signs of marriage.
