SDRAMs are Static Data RAMs. In these, the data is retained without the need for frequent reloading. However, these RAMs are highly expensive. SDRAMs are used in the CPU cache.
DDR RAM is a type of DDRAM. These are Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM. ‘Double Data Rate’ indicates double speed data access. A DDR3 RAM that runs at 800MHz effectively functions at twice that speed, because it does two data transfers within each clock cycle. So the 800 MHz translates to 1600 Mega Transfers.
The DDR RAM has evolved through many versions. Right now, DDR3 is the most common, though DDR4 has come in and DDR2 RAMs are still popular. If you do a little research, you can decide whether you can cut costs with a DDR2 RAM and still experience increased speed, or if you need to invest in the faster DDR3 or DDR4 versions.
How Much Memory Do You Need?
The answer to this question depends on your usage. If you just browse the net and watch some videos, you probably need not bother about buying extra RAM. If your work involves accessing large amounts of data or involves intensive and complex programs, you could benefit from increasing your system’s memory, 4GB RAM could satisfy most needs. If you often stream media files, work on graphics-intensive programming, or you are an avid gamer, you may need even more memory to satisfy the need for storing snippets of data, code and images. In this case, you can probably go for 8 GB RAM
