The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic novel on one man’s revenge by Alexandre Dumas.

    Summary of the Book

Edmond Dantès has it all. He is getting married to the love of his life, he has earned a lot of money, and he is about to become the captain of his own ship. He is a lucky man, but some men might call him a little too lucky. Three diabolical men who are envious of Dantès’ success conspire against him, leading to his imprisonment as a Bonapartist traitor.  Dantès is dumbstruck, he faces a swift imprisonment without a trail. He is condemned for life at the Château d'If. The years pass as Dantès slowly begins to turn mad. He hears a man attempting to tunnel his way to freedom and befriends him. This unlikely ally calls himself the Abbé Faria, who soon becomes a close confidante. Over the next eight years, this mad priest teaches Dantès much about the world, and revealing that he was obviously betrayed and cheated into imprisonment. No longer the naïve young man he used to be, Dantès finds his way to freedom once Faria dies, escaping in a bag meant for the Priest’s body. He finds Faria’s secret treasure, and begins to hatch a plan to make everyone who cheated him pay for their crime. Leaving behind his naïve appearance and identity, he returns to his home a changed man, a man after revenge. He is no longer Edmond Dantès, he is the Count of Monte Cristo.

If only there were 6 stars to give!

This is a favourite book for me and my sister - one of only two books I would recommend to almost anyone. I have owned 5 or 6 copies over the years; when my latest one went awol, I ordered this edition from Flipkart. Flipkart service, as usual, was excellent. The edition is good, complete and unabridged (this is not a book to be read abridged!), the only complaint some people could have is that the font is small; not an issue for me...

As for the book, what can I say? I have loved this book...

    among the all time best

"If your lot is cast among fools, it is essential to study folly", learns the young, unfortunate and wrongly imprisoned Dantes and sets him on his way to becoming the Count of Monte Cristo. What follows is almost 1000 pages of how the Count settles scores with his wicked antagonists (who in the course of 20 years have risen to be even more dangerously powerful and have totally forgotten him) set in the post Napoleonic France.
Almost 1000 pages, but doesn't feel heavy. You'd feel you aren't re...

    Highly abridged version

First thing first - this story is not for kids as some suggest. The complete story is about revenge and its repurcussions as any serious reader will agree.
I read the reviews before buying the book and one of them mentioned it as unabridged. Well it is not. I read the full version some years back and this book skips several important part of stories (part like Dantes reaching Island of Monte Cristo, how he meets Jacopo etc.) and you get a feeling of "incompleteness". I hope in addition to de...

A huge popular success when it was first serialized in the 184s, Dumas was inspired by a real-life case of wron...

The Best & Original/Unabridged Version of the Book

This is probably the most accurate translation of the book you will ever find. Most versions of this book in the market are abridged & some of them have been modified so much that they has lost the feel & involvement that Dumas was capable of weaving into his stories. These versions don't even mentioned "Abridged" on their cover so there is no way of knowing which version it is.

The translator Robin Buss has indeed done a wonderful job not only by maintaining the content of the original boo...
