This is a nicely written short book. However, the book should be read for the interesting conversations that the writer has with George Fernandes and even more so with the Pakistani activist and lawyer, Asma Jahangir, rather than an account of India's Pokhran tests.
The book also tries to give us an idea of what would realistically happen in the advent of a nuclear explosion in an urban city like Delhi.
Overall, a nice read with a gripping pace.

Amitav Ghosh is know for the depth of his research for each of his writings. In this book also the effort shines through as he unravels the motives and compulsions behind Pokhran II and the geo-political drama unfolding after it.

We have all known Amitav Ghosh as the weaver of stories, bringing to life exotic locations and eras. This time he casts his focus on the nuclear dilemmas plaguing India and Pakistan and does so inimitably with style and precision.
