  • Description
"Damsels of the Bay" deserves a special place in the collective consciousness of country since it brings out many unique aspects of these islands. The book has depicted not only visual delights of the islands but it also excites the mind, imaginations and also touches the heart. As one reads the book, one feels that the author has actually "experienced" both mental exhilaration and emotional delight, which he has tried to convey to the reader. Andaman Islands contains Archaeological wealth, the story of great freedom fighters like Sher Ali and Veer Sawarkar, Plants and species, The Tribals, The Cellular Jail, the present Andaman and the Tale of Tsunami, all is well described in a very lucid manner in this book which makes the reader lost inside these Islands. The author has established the fact that these Islands are the integral part of the country and defies the concept of Kala Pani what it is called in some parts of the country. The most important aspect which is covered in this book is that the 572 islands, islets and coral rock, cast about a thousand Kilometers away from mainland India in Bay of Bengal, Picturesque, yet often on the margins of public imagination, the islands have been etched in India's memory for its dreaded Cellular Jail - a colonial outpost that confined several prominent members of India's National Movement. The book will certainly enlighten the travelers and the Public Servants as well the researches to know more about Andaman.
