Imagine a world where space age technology is the norm, where holograms and lasers are mundane everyday items for use with daily chores. Now imagine this world filled with bloodthirsty Zombies and mutated corpses that come alive and grab at you from the shadowy corners of a claustrophobic passageway. The Dead Space games always manage to bring a cold chill down the spines of their players, no matter how seasoned one might be in handling horror themed science fiction games.
Features and Synopsis
Developed by Visceral Game Studios, the creators of all the Dead Space games so far, Dead Space 3 (Limited Edition) is a third person shooter for the Xbox 360 that gives you an over-the-shoulder perspective. It has a PEGI rating of 18 for violence and horror elements. Following the design elements of the previous titles in the franchise, Dead Space 3 adopts a dark take on the world around the player, giving a feeling of constant threat, which helps in keeping the player always alert and ready to take down enemies.
The third major installment to the game is set for release early this year, after it was announced in 2012 as a much awaited sequel to the hugely popular Dead Space 2. The game picks up soon after the events of the previous title, where the player visits a frozen planet with his companions in tow. During the course of punching through the planet’s thick atmosphere, the shuttle they are travelling in experiences a series of technical anomalies. This causes the ship’s systems to fail, including the shields which lead to the hull of the ship breaking apart. One of his crew members is lost during the process and they crash land in different locations. As Isaac Clarke, you must take it upon yourself to find your missing crew member quickly before the elements claim her.
The third Dead Space sequel is based on a Co-op gameplay employed by the likes of Gears of War and Inversion. You and your partner must brave the storms and wildlife on the frozen planet and accomplish various missions and search for Ellie, the missing crew member. John Carver is your capable partner who accompanies you on your missions and provides valuable assistance when you need it the most. The planet where you find yourself is called Tau Volantis. There are rumors that the Markers originated here, the cause for all the troubles faced by Isaac and Mankind as a whole. The Planet is also supposedly the source of the Necromorph outbreak. The condition is brought on by a dangerous alien virus that takes over the host body and mutates it at an alarmingly rapid rate. The result is a grotesque creature that only has one thing on its mind, which is to kill and consume while infecting more people with the same virus.
To kill these creatures, conventional methods will rarely work. Shooting the head will not yield the desired result in most of the Necromorphs. Since they are reanimated corpses, shooting the brain will not cause them to stop. The only way to stop them is to dismember the corpses and shoot off or shear off the limbs and hamper mobility. Most of the wildlife on the planet have been infected by the virus and have turned into Necromorphs.
As the Chief engineer of the ship, you are well adapted to fashioning weapons out of almost anything suitable around you. Put Isaac’s engineering skills to the test and create weapons that you can effectively use against the enemy. These weapons that you create or find during your journey can be customized to suit your changing requirements. Survival tools can also be made out of materials that Isaac finds strewn around the crash site.
