*On the Beach* (1937)- Surrealism is also present in On the Beach (Bothinq), where we are once again confronted with two feminine shapes formed from an ensemble of strange biomorphic forms. A small toy boat is lowered into the water by one of the individuals, who appears to be at the edge of the sea. Another, similar form rises above the horizon, as if observing the foreground figures' activities. However, because this figure is depicted at almost the same scale as the foreground characters, its appearance on the horizon implies that it is a massive and dangerous creature. There are a lot of narrative inconsistencies in this piece. ******** PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) is universally renowned as one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the twentieth century; in terms of art, and art movements that occurred over this period.
