Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description
A book for everyone who has had to contend with pain and loss How can extreme suffering be so commonplace if there is a God who knows everything, who is all-powerful and also compassionate? How do the scriptures of our religions explain the existence of suffering? Do these explanations stand up to examination? Does our experience testify to a God? Or do the two demons- time and chance-explain all that we have to go through? In a devastating dissection of the scriptures-laced with accounts of the suffering and pain that he has seen at first-hand-Arun Shourie tells us why he has eventually gravitated to the teachings of the Buddha. And what lessons these teachings hold for our daily lives. Your neighbours have a son. He is now thirty-five years old. Going by his age you would think of him as a young man, and, on meeting his mother or father, would ask, almost out of habit, 'And what does the young man do?' That expression, 'young man', doesn't sit well as he is but a child. He cannot walk. Indeed, he cannot stand. He cannot use his right arm. He can see only to his left. His hearing is sharp, as is his memory. But he speaks only syllable by syllable . . . The father shouts at him. He curses him: 'You are the one who brought misery into our home . . . We knew no trouble till you came. Look at you-weak, dependent, drooling, good for nothing . . .' Nor does the father stop at shouting at the child, at pouring abuse at him, at cursing the child. He beats him. He thrashes him black and blue . . . As others in the family try to save the child from the father's rage, he leaps at them. Curses them, hits out at them. What would you think about that damned father? Wouldn't you report him to the police or some such authority that can lock him up? Wouldn't you try everything you can to remove the child from the reach of the father? But what if the father is The Father-the 'T' and 'F' capital, both words italicized? That is, what if the 'father' in question is 'God'? Why do the reaction and answer change for so many of us?

    Fascinating

Firstly, this is one of it's kind book from Arun Shourie. His earlier books were on Politics/Court Judgements/Reservations/Secularism etc. This one is Philosophical and attempts to answer the question that each of us sometimes in his/her life has to grapple with:"If there is an omnipresent,all-knowing,compassionate God,why is there so much suffering in this world?"
First Chapter deals with Arun Shourie's personal struggle with such suffering:His son,now 34 years old has been suffering from Cereb...

When we start to read it looks like a heart rending personal life misery, than it transforms into an amazing analysis of Quran, Bible and Hindu scriptures . May be one has to read quran and bible to know the characters like Job. Again he jumps to Mahathma Gandhi's opinion .

It is too frank and I read the first 200 pages in 15 days and the remaining 233 pages in 5 hours during a journey.

Very rarely we come across Indian authors analysing varied subjects and a non fiction interesting.

Interesting book - need to keep religion aside when reading this

Arun Shourie delves at length into the eternal question - God or NO God. He does a good job proving his point - albeit he ends up being relatively harsh on the Abrahamic Religions. But then being bound to a book of code, a manual it is easier to draw from them.

Overall a well rounded book, which does put some serious questions on the working of the God (in case the reader believes in the fact that there is one :)).

    Liked the book very much

I found the book pretty good. It discussed the impact/relevance of many religions, not explained aspects of religious texts, the lessons taught by sufferings, and how a person achieves knowledge just to get shattered by the next sufferings....

    Shourie's flawed thinking

Shourie is making a fundamental mistake, in saying that God does not exists because evil exists. Infact it is the other way around. Existence of an objective evil shows that there is an existence objective good. And objective good and evil can come only if God exists.

ofcourse the existence of evil argument have been used in the past by many. Just look at the Eythropo Argument. But this has been proven to be false.

I would also recommend, Letters to a Post-Modern Hindu by Vishal Mangalwa...
