  • Description
This book of poetry by Dr Abraham Verghese, an entomologist, ornithologist, nature conservationist and a spiritualist contains metric verses which are ‘silent songs from the heart’. Many reviewers have found the variety of themes in the composition to be a befitting symbolism of the diverse interests the author manifests. His constant association with farmers who sow and reap, seems to have influenced his personality, and this perhaps rings throughout the book in terms of eventual hope and triumph.

    Author Info
    • Dr. Abraham Verghese has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Entomology and has been a Scientist with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, for the last four decades. He has been an expert on insect control as well as insect conservation. Insect Environment is a journal he founded 25 years ago and has been editing the same. He has had several study tours and trainings in prestigious institutions round the world. In 2005, he was recognised as the Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, UK. On the scientific front, he has several research papers and books. Dr Verghese has several Gold Medals, National and International Awards and Fellowships of several Societies and Academies. His claim to non-fiction is only a book titled “Living Dowry’ again a researched, social theme, of south Kerala. Dr. Verghese is widely travelled to nearly 30 countries. In this book he tag-appends his name with Ph.D. only to gain more identity and to obviate readers from ascribing this book to namesakes; this being a common name of Kerala Christians! As a retired scientist of ICAR, his true domicile is pan-India. Though born in Kerala, he was brought up in Bangalore (now Bengaluru), a very cosmopolitan city of Karnataka, India. He is in the Editorial Board of several scientific journals and is the Editor-in-Chief of his popular insect science journal, Insect Environment, a quarterly (www.insectenvironment.com). He has thousands of farmer-friends across India whom he helps in plant health issues, and networks environment-friendly farm-inputs supply and consultancy through a start-up International Phytosanitary Research and Services, Bangalore. As an avid birdwatcher, he has published several papers and two books in ornithology besides his entomology publications. A freelance journalist himself, his popular book on “Watching Insects” is widely acclaimed. For more on him read http://www.insectenvironment.com/editorial.
