One of few best books i have read in machinery

This is a great book and has the potential to make a student really understand how a transformer,AC machines and DC machines work. The other book i recommend is 'Electric machinery fundamentals by chapman' which be sompler to read. Read both books for a better perspective since both the authours are knowledgable and present the subject in their unique way.

Collectors item

In present times, this book is nothing but a collector's item.it may have been well when it was written years ago and less textbooks on the subject were available.
Books like MG Say,Hancock-Clayton easily surpass this as the best textbook in the realm of electrical machines.
Unless you want to own it just for historical reasons, dont go for it.
ps:I dont know how MIT still asks its students to follow this book for the course.

A must read for Electrical Engineers.

To start with a very well written book. The language is crystal clear and and evokes the correct principles in the reader's mind. The book covers almost everything related to machines.
What I like the most about the book is that it depth goes in full depth of the topic. This creates a lasting image in the reader's mind, and this is where the book stands out. The book simply makes study of machines - a journey.

Definitely go for it to Clear your basics , But Topics are left for Exam point of veiw(IES,GATE tec)

If you are a beginner than Definitely go for it, the language is simple and easy. it will clear your basics. But this will not be your last book, because as far as the IES(ESE) or other competitive exams(like GATE) are concerns the Syllabus is NOT complete. Things like 3phase Transformer, starting of DC and Induction motor, parallel operation of Transformer, efficiency and regulation, testing etc are NOT covered. So you have to other books to cover these left topics. But this book is good as ...

Superb book

Read this book if you want to get some insight on electric machines in addition to information. Synchronous machine treatment is awesome, especially the analysis with d q variables. Rotating magnetic field concept well explained. Though this is a foreign author book, the material is very accessible and can be easily learnt that many other books.
