<br/><b>Michel Crappe</b> (1936) received the degrees in Civil Minning Engineering and Civil Electrical Engineering in 1959 and 1962 respectively, from the Facult&#233;&#160;Polytechnique de Mons (Belgium). He joined the Facult&#233;&#160;Polytechnique de Mons in 1963, where he has been from 1971 to 2001 full professor in charge of the Electrical Machine Department. He is currently emeritus professor. Editor of 3 books on electric power systems, author or co-author of over 100 journal and conference papers and chapters in 6 books, in the areas of large electrical machine, system identification concepts, electric power system dynamic behaviour, FACTS and electrical energy distributed generation. Member of several Scientific Committees and Editorial Boards. From 1985 to 2000, chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Royal Belgian Electrical Engineering Society (SRBE). Elected in November 2003 associate member of the Royal Belgian Academy Council of Applied Science. Member of SRBE, SEE (Emerite), EPE. Recipient of the 1998 PES Prize Paper Award of IEEE.
