    Description

Embroideries, written by Marjane Satrapi, is a graphic novel that brings together several women who share their stories.

    Summary of the Book

Embroideries is set at a post-dinner tea party that brings all the adored characters from Satrapi's previous best-selling novel to the limelight. The story revolves around seven Iranian women from Satrapi's life, including her tough-talking grandmother, her fashionable and peculiar aunt, her quiet mother, and other friends and neighbours. All of them gather for an afternoon of tea-drinking and gossiping. As expected, the conversation soon turns to sex, love, arranged marriages, faked virginity, whims of men, annoying mother-in-laws, child birth, bedroom secrets, and dishonest husbands. With the passing of the afternoon, each of the woman shares her own secrets about a lot of things. The topics range from how to escape the husband your parents choose for you, how to fake virginity, and how to take advantage of being someone's mistress, to relishing the benefits of plastic surgery! The reader also gets to witness some moving tales of betrayal, futile marriages, regret, and stories of women being forced to marry for all the wrong reasons, which expose a patriarchal culture. Satrapi's novel offers an intimate look into Iran’s sexual politics. She presents a perfect tale of what happens when such women get together to discuss their innermost secrets, with the edge of wit, highly stylized drawings and rendering expressions with bold strokes.

    Excellent buy

After reading persepolis by the same author, I had to get my hands on this book. The stories are hilarious! The book is a quick read and one can imagine sitting with the womenfolk and talking about their deepest secrets and how once you are among women there is no space for shyness. The author's work both written and illustrated is amazing!

The delivery by flipkart, as usual excellent! Can't wait to order more books!

    A book worth owning

Satrai has always mesmerised me, and this one was no exception. The female perspective was excellently portrayed, without making it seem too cliched. A good bargain for a masterpiece like this. Keep it up flipkart!

    Satrapi at her best!

"Embroideries" was everything i expected from the author. The intimate details of her family women were revealed in such a way that it felt intrusive. But nevertheless, a good read!

    Fun read

its a group of ladies who are discussing men over a cup of noon tea. no unusual fact that one doesnt know.. you probably would know more or less the same and would feel that you can share a thought or two with these women. All in all.. that traits of men remain the same over ages or continents.. read it for light fun.. nothing extraordinary.. light a light read over a cup of tea
