Description
The new Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan reigns over a colossally wealthy empire of 100 million souls. Yet to gain his throne he has followed the savage 'throne or coffin' traditions of his ancestors - descendants of Genghis Khan and Tamburlaine. Ever since the Moghuls took India, brother has fought brother and sons their fathers for the prize and Shah Jahan has been no exception. As his reign dawns, now is the time for Shah Jahan to secure his throne by crushing his enemies. Instead, devastated by the death of his beautiful wife Mumtaz, he becomes obsessed with building an epic monument to their perfect love - the Taj Mahal. His overwhelming grief isolates him from his sons and he does not see the rivalries, indeed hatreds, building between them. When he falls ill, civil war breaks out - ruthless, murderous and uncontrollable - and the foundations of the empire itself begin to shake.

Expected more, very disapointed

I was looking forward to this title from Alex Rutherford. I have always had a big interest in Mughal history and I consider the rule of Shah Jahan to be the epitome of Mughal rule. However in the book the strength of character of Shah Jahan doesn't come out. All we get to know his that he waged wars and loved his women. I believe his character portrayal - his passions, weakness, arrongance etc could have been pictured strongly.

Another big let down was the conflict of Aurganzeb and Dara. Th...

Awesome series - coming from a person who dislikes history

This series has been really great. I do not like history as a subject as such, but the way these books have been written is captivating.

Once we start reading, we cannot hold back before completing it.

Go for it!

"Unputdownable"

Another fabulous offering from Alex Rutherford. History narrated flawlessly by a master story-teller. Slick and fast paced though perhaps not as gripping as "The Raiders" but still quite "unputdownable".

Good read

Quick delivery (within 2 days after ordering).
Its a fast read and thoroughly enjoyable. Though not entirely true, the after-notes in every chapter is good, which reveals the truth according to history. Gets the reader to imagine because of the detailed narration.

Continuation of the series

The series is good and I have all the volumes. Good for a general read. Historical fiction can be good as a general entertainer.
Can be boring at times with weird and long details of battle scenes.
100 words are difficult to think of....... MR FLIPKART
