Friction stir welding is a new welding process that has more advantages compared to other joining technologies. It is a solid state welding technique, it fabricate joints with less deformation & good mechanical properties. In industrial applications such as automobile, ship building, &aerospace industries the aluminum alloys are extensively used due to their light weight, good mechanical strength and high corrosion resistance. In this process heat generates between tool shoulder and work pieces to be joined. This heat is sufficient to join the work pieces. In the present work, the finite element modeling has been carried out on rotating tool and Friction stir welding of AA6082 butt joints using FE package ANSYS15. Finally the welding parameters and tool pin geometry have been suggested for high quality defect free joints.
