About the Book - This book is an attempt to unravel the issues pertaining to the interface between medical anthropology and health sciences. This is the outcome of the first National Conference of the Society for Indian Medical Anthropology (SIMA) held in Mysore on 27-29th November, 2007, in honour of the Eminent Indian Medical Anthropologist Prof. R.K. Mutatkar. Eminent Medical Anthropologists from India and abroad, young and old, have contributed to the two volumes of this book. About Author - H.K. Bhat is a retired Professor of Anthropology, University of Mysore, Mysore. Earlier he served in Anthropological Survey of India, Govt. of India (1981-1982) and as Lecturer at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong (1982-1988). He was a Visiting Fellow, Association of Common Wealth Universities, at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University of the West Indies, Port of Spain, Trinidad, in 1992. At present, he is the General Secretary of Society for Indian Medical Anthropology, Mysore and Vice-President of Anthropological Association, Mysore. Prof. P.C. Joshi B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology, Delhi University, served as Head of the Department of Anthropology in various institutions and is currently Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Delhi. Prof. P.C. Joshi is recipient of the Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra National Award as Friends of Trees founder member, 1987 and the Inter-University Centre Associateship Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, 1996-1999, Certificate of Honour at the First France-India Meet on Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, 2007, Plaque of Appreciation from Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, 2008, and Certificate of Appreciation on his research on disaster impacts in Asia and Europe by Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia in 2009, among other honours and distinctions. B.R. Vijayendra holds Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Anthropology from University of Mysore and secured first rank in M.A. Anthropology. He has specialised in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and Medical Anthropology and maintains interest in the field of Medical Anthropology. Co-Author of a book titled Anthropology, he has published a number of research papers. He currently works in Anthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre, Mysore as Assistant Anthropologist.
