Feluda Ekadash is a collection of eleven noted stories by Satyajit Ray. These stories detail the exploits of ace detective Feluda. Feluda, who goes by the name Prodosh Chandra Mitra, relies on his cousin Topshe and famous author Jatayu or Lalmohon Ganguli for help in solving cases.
Feluda Ekadash features the story of this celebrated detective who became a household name in Bengal thanks to his creator Satyajit Ray. The stories in the collection include Samaddarer Chabi, Ghurghutiya-r Ghatona, Gosainpur Sargaram, Bombaiyer Bombete and Londone Feluda.
Feluda solves diverse mysteries ranging from finding Radharaman Mitra’s hidden money to stumbling upon a murder and lock combination in Ghurghutiya to investigating the murder of a client’s son in London. Other stories in the anthology include Tota Rahasya, Robertsoner Ruby, Baksho Rahasya, Napoleoner Chithi, Aditya Bardhaner Abishkar and Jahangirer Swarnomudra.
Satyajit Ray’s huge interest in crime fiction led him to conceptualize Feluda. This was a young detective with immense brain power and courage, inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Feluda Ekadash contains some of the best stories of the super detective’s exploits.
About Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray is a globally renowned filmmaker, writer, painter, graphic designer, illustrator and film critic. He put India on the world map with his 1992 Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.
He has also written an autobiography, Jakhan Choto Chilam in addition to essays on films. The latter were published in the collections Bishoy Chalachchitra, Ekei Bole Shooting and Our Films, Their Films.
Satyajit Ray attended Ballygunge Government High School and did his B.A. from Presidency College in Economics. He also studied at Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan at his mother’s insistence. He started work as a visualiser for the advertising agency D. J. Keymer and later worked for Signet Press. In 1947, he founded the Calcutta Film Society in collaboration with Chidananda Dasgupta and other individuals. He has won awards at the prestigious Cannes, Berlin and Venice film festivals. He has also won thirty two National Film Awards from the Government. He has also won the Dadasaheb Phalke award and the Legion of Honor. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna, which is India’s highest civilian award. Some of his films include Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Charulata, Shakha Proshakha, Kanchenjunga, Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, Aranyer Din Ratri, and Seemabaddha.
