Ridge Gourd is popularly known as Luffa Acutangula and sponge gourd. It is also know as Turai, Turiya, Sirola, Dodka, Beerakaya, Peechanga, Angled luffa, Ridge Luffa and Chinese Okra. How to sow Ridge gourd seeds: Ridge gourd is a summer season vegetable and can be successfully grown in containers also. The seeds can be sown in summer and spring season and some time throughout the year. To grow any climbing (creeper) vegetable we should take 12-18 inches pot ( 18 in case of Bottle gourd and Pumpkin). Ridge gourd requires Neutral to slightly acidic soil ( with soil ph in the range-5.8-6.8). Ridge Gourd can be grow in all types of soils, but performs good in loam silk and slit soils, So prepare a good quality soil mix ( by adding 2 part organic manure or compost 2 part garden soil and 1 part sand). Let the seeds sit in water for 12-24 hours in warm water before sowing to soil as it enhances germination process. Now choose a sunny place and sow the seeds 0.5-1 inches deep in the prepared soil. Water gently, and keep the soil moist but not water logged till seed germination takes place. It may take 10-15 days to germinate.
