Situated in the northwest of India, the folk heritage of Punjab is the traditional urge of thousands of years of its history. The songs, ballads, epics and romances are written in a number of local dialects of Punjabi.

With a predominantly Sikh population, the mystic and religious folk songs of Punjab include the Shalooks of various Sikh gurus and sufi poets.
