Nancy Friday is one of the pioneers of erotic feminist writing. Her books have proved controversial, created uproars, and also gained great popularity among her female readers.

Friday’s first book was the path breaking The Secret Garden, which created quite an uproar with its discussion on women’s fantasies. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1933, Friday worked as a freelance writer, a newspaper reporter, and, also an editor. She has written for magazines like Playboy, Cosmopolitan, and Forum. Friday was married twice. She married novelist Bill Manville, in 1967 (divorced in 1986). In 1988, she married the former Editor-in-chief of Time Inc, Norman Pearlstine, whom she divorced in 2005. Friday now stays in New York.
