  • Description

Plagued with a sensitivity towards all forms of light, Anna Lyndsey had to face up to the face that she’d be left in the dark forever. However, as she reveals in Girl in the Dark, love was right around the corner, and it was coming to save her.

    Summary of the Book

Anna Lyndsey had a unique condition. An otherwise ambitious and hard-working girl, she discovered that she was developing an intolerance for the computer screen. Soon enough, this intolerance began to spread towards fluorescent light, and later, the sun itself. At her worst, she is forced to spend months together within a dark room, giving herself up to the simple joys of audiobooks and elaborate word games. At times, she is allowed a manner of respite by her metabolism, affording few hours in the dawn and at dusk. Through it all, she has Pete at her side, and he is both the light of her dark world and the single star in her life. Despite being unable to bear him children or even step out of the house with him, she occupies his mind, his heart and wonders if she should feel guilty. However, Pete’s love for Anna is all-encompassing, and he needs neither light nor the Sun to express it to her constantly. This autobiographical account of the author’s unique condition and how she copes with it provides readers a glimpse into a dismal world, and it reminds them that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
