  • Description
In the early 1920s, Jaydayal Goyandka and Hanuman Prasad Poddar, two Marwari businessmen-turned-spiritualists, set up the Gita Press and Kalyan magazine. While most other journals of the period, whether religious, literary or political, survive only in press archives, Kalyan now has a circulation of over 200,000, and its English counterpart, Kalyana-Kalpataru, of over 100,000.Gita Press created an empire that spoke in a militant Hindu nationalist voice. Featuring an extraordinary cast of characters - buccaneering entrepreneurs and hustling editors, nationalist ideologues and religious fanatics - Gita Press and the Making of Hindu India is essential (and exciting) reading for our times.

    An excellent book.

First off, kudos to Flipkart. I placed an order last Friday, they delivered within two days, on a Sunday, and that too to a smallish place like Cuttack, Odisha.

The book, now. A funny thing to say about a piece of serious research, but I couldn't put it down. It is meticulously researched, and very perceptive in its insights. More important, it tells a fascinating story in a lucid, accessible manner. I'd consider it money very well spent. A must-read for anyone interested in the recent socia...

Leftist propaganda to derail National story

Wished to give even lower than 1 star. Gita Press publishes book that treasure ancient Indian heritage and cultural traditions that takes the world in awe for the civilization that flourished in India. Bhagwad Geeta, Ramayana, Ved, Puranas etc. published by Gita Press have made inroads into every Indian household's Puja room. To quote such a decent effort by the publishers of preserving the aura of Indian genius, with Hindu militancy is indicative of a mischievous intent similar to Romila Tha...

    Disgusting read

A very poor attempt to label nationalists as militants with false and fabricated stories inserted between facts in the book.
The books reflects an absolutely perverted mindset of the author just as Sigmund Freud had termed the love between a mother and a child as being sexual in nature.
