Description

Called the Song Offerings, the Gitanjali is the culmination of Rabindranath Tagore's literary prowess and the greatest achievement of his poetic legacy.

Summary of the Book

Encompassing a praise of nature, the Gitanjali celebrates spiritualism and the beauty of the world for all to see. First written in Bengali and later translated into English for a larger audience, these poems touch upon a single poet's praise for the world in all its glory. The song itself is the offering he makes for nature and in it, one finds sublime messages of spiritualism, devotion and gratitude.

About Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, writer, philosopher and politician. His writings are considered the epitome of Bengali literature and several of his short stories and novels have been translated into many languages and have subsequently been adapted into hit movies. He is best remembered for: Gora, Kabuliwallah, The Home And The World and Choker Bali.

He was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for the English translation of the Gitanjali. He was also conferred a knighthood by the British Empire which he renounced to protest against the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre.

Mesmerizing & Classical

Being a Bengali i have gone through some parts of the Original Gitanjali, which soothes the ear if versed & touches the soul if read,
Gitanjali is one of the greatest creations, the translation is not perfect but somewhat close to the original masterpiece,

Those who want to go through a journey of the immaterial world where inner peace & nature & love & beauty harnesses must go through this magical & classical creation.

By reading this book, one will get a very good idea of God according to Hinduism. When God is understood in this manner, one cannot but develop love for God. Beautiful!

Gitanjali is a collection of Rabindranath Tagore's poems which was instrumental in winning him the Nobel Prize for Literature. Almost all the poems are addressed to gawd, and frankly, I was sceptical whether I would be able to enjoy them. But I really did. This edition by Rupa is wonderful and it has some original pictures of the poet himself, of his works and the full version of his Nobel Prize acceptance speech. At this price, it is a lovely book to own.
