Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

The God Of Small Things by Arundhati Roy is a tale about two fraternal twins and their childhood experiences and how their lives are forever changed by a set of unfortunate events whose roots are deeply embedded in the social and political systems of the town they live in.

    Summary Of The Book

The God Of Small Things is centered around the Ipe family living in Ayemenem, Kerala, after Independence. Estha and Rahel are the protagonists of Roy’s story. The twins reside with their mother, uncle, and grandparents.

The story begins with the arrival of Sophie Mol, the twins’ cousin. She arrives from England with her mom, to spend their Christmas vacation in India. Sophie’s step father died tragically in a car accident, so as soon as she arrives in India she is the center of attention of all the adults at home. Feeling ignored, the twins fix an old boat with the help of their friend Velutha. The twins, Rahel and Esthappen use this boat to frequently traverse the river and visit an old, abandoned house. Velutha belongs to a lower caste, and is an Untouchable, but the Ipe family have known him since childhood, and employ him in their pickle factory.

The plot thickens when it is discovered that the twins’ mother Ammu is having a relationship with Velutha. Since this is a socially unacceptable practice, Ammu is locked up in a room. When the twins attempt to speak to her, she angrily tells them that had they not been there she would’ve been free. Feeling hurt, the twins decide to run away to their abandoned house. Sophie learns about the twins’ plan and joins them. As the children traverse the river, the boat capsizes. The twins are able to swim across, but Sophie is carried away by the current. Feeling exhausted, the twins fall asleep in their abandoned house.

Unbeknownst to the twins, Velutha is also sleeping there, on the veranda. When the children’s absence is discovered, the family also learns about the discovery of Sophie’s body near the river. The twins’ grandmother immediately reports to the police that Velutha is responsible for raping Ammu and kidnapping the twins. The police find Velutha and subject him to a brutal beating.

The God Of Small Things was the recipient of the Booker Prize in 1997. It grabbed the fourth spot on the New York Times Bestseller List. Her debut novel had the highest success for a non-expatriate Indian author.

    Splendid. In a word.

Have to come in terms with the fact that Only those with childhood still in them, would enjoy this book. How can such a beautiful language even exist?- That was my initial reaction to this. Ms. Roy demands such strong emotion from her readers that it makes you really wonder if you were an invisible being lingering around when the lives of the characters unfold in front of you. It literally serenades you, making you believe that these characters, really, yes, do exist. However, it your imagina...

This story will stay with you for a long long time

Arundhati is a poetess, an artist who spins munificence with the ordinary. Her story - a part biography is like fine music to even an untrained ear. She's one writer that I admire mostly because her words tell us a story in visuals. You feel the pain, the struggle, the sly humor and the God she cherishes in small things...

A must read for every one who likes good literature...

Each character is weird, the story is full of remorse... But the way Roy has written.... BEAUTIFUL.... The story keeps you glued and it really takes you to the place described and live those character, after reading the book you are in a complete different mood... The writing is that powerful.

If you are looking for something different from that of romantic/action genre, I recommend this book.

    A Rarity

This book is the best pick for a broad and open minded person.. Tells you how "Love" is always associated with sadness, how women are made scape goats for everything that happens, how a person's childhood experiences affect his/her perspectives and whole life.. The book has less to tell and lot to infer. So unleash ur minds open and then start reading the book...
PS: If u dont get the viability of the story, finish reading it and then spend a whole day thinking about it.. U'll get to know how ...

    The God of small things

The story keeps moving between past and present in no specific order. It is difficult to make out the start or end of the book as if you can just start from any page , like i said no specific order. The writer thinke very differntly from a common man. The similies are just amazing. She would suddenly compare a situation or someone with something that only she can imagine and beleive me it is beautiful. I looked forward to every comparison she made thorughout the book. The book does bind you t...

    Absolute rubbish!

This novel is extraordinary i must say. Don't know about others but i always want my books to be perfect. I mean perfect cover, perfect pages and that awesome smell of new pages.
I had the opposite experience as soon as i opened the book. Zeroxed pages, uneven writing and low quality cover. Had a terrible experience with this seller.
