This is a classic novel which describes the social system of India long before freedom.. It depicts the differences in the life of people from all classes - the poor - the rich and the middle-class in a very realistic manner.. The storyline is such that you will feel the characters of the story in front of your eyes.. You can feel each emotion of the novel.. The way the life and thinking of a villager, and the people from town is differentiated and described is a classic.. A must read for tho...

The book is widely regarded as Premchand at his best. No need for a review about that.

The edition is small print. The cover is smooth non-shiny, just like good paperbacks, feels good and doesn't look cheap. It contains no literary introductions except at the back though, just the novel text.
