What happens to the food that we eat?
The food that we eat gets digested in our stomach and is broken down further, into simpler substances. There are substances from food that need to reach out to the other parts of the body as well. Therefore, they need to be transferred to the body, through the blood. Digestion takes place in the alimentary canal which is made up of several organs, each having its own function. An alimentary canal is a long tube which starts from the mouth. In the adult the canal is nearly 10 metres long, like a long arm length rope. The food that we eat is pushed with the help of our muscles. Once, all the food is digested and the appropriate substances are absorbed, the waste matter is expelled.
