    Description

The Great Gatsby spins a tale of love, obsession, wealth, decadence and betrayal, set in America in the early 1920s, and is considered to be one of the greatest works of American literature.

    Summary Of The Book

The story follows the lives of the residents of a small town in Long Island, Nick Carraway, the narrator, his vastly wealthy neighbour, Jay Gatsby, and Nick’s cousin, Daisy Buchanan, and her husband, Tom, who live across town from him. Nick, who served in the US army, moves to New York City and rents a house next to the luxurious Gatsby mansion. The longer he lives there, the more his fascination with Gatsby’s lifestyle increases.

One day, Nick is invited to attend one of the lavish parties thrown by Gatsby. He decides to go and he soon learns that Gatsby and his cousin, Daisy, were once in love. He also learns of Tom’s mistress, a woman named Myrtle Wilson. After getting acquainted with Gatsby, he learns that the parties and the opulence is just an attempt on Gatsby’s behalf to draw the attention of Daisy. Gatsby asks Nick to reunite them, and unbeknownst to Daisy, he sets up a reunion between them. The duo eventually rekindle their romance and start seeing each other discreetly.
Tom becomes increasingly suspicious of Daisy, and a series of climactic events unfold at a luncheon at his house. Nick is a bystander in this scenario, watching the lives of the people around him slowly unravel. He can’t help but feel disgusted at their lack of morality and rampant infidelity.

The Great Gatsby was first published in 1925, at which point it was not commercially viable. After the death of the author, the novel started gaining popularity around World War II. Till date, it has been adapted into six movies, and the opera. The Great Gatsby is now known as Fitzgerald’s finest work, and remains to be a contender for the Great American Novel title.

    About F. Scott Fitzgerald

Francis Scott Fitzgerald, born in 1896, was an acclaimed American author and poet.

He has also authored novels like This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, Tender Is the Night, and The Love of the Last Tycoon.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, his relationship with the written word began at the nascent age of thirteen, when a detective story written by him was published in the school newspaper. A World War I veteran, he was married to Zelda Sayre, and they had a daughter named Frances. An alcoholic past and a series of heart attacks led to his untimely death in 1940. Fitzgerald is still regarded as one of the greatest twentieth century writers from America.

    Horrible editing

I want to make sure that every reader who buys The Great Gatsby enjoys the magical prose of Scott Fitzgerald. However for me reading the 'Cambridge edition' of The Great Gatsby was no less but a pain in the head. There are so many typo errors in this edition that you feel like giving up and buying a new version from some other publishing press. Disappointing. Lovers of literature, please look elsewhere, and try and get the other editions online, cause this one is horrible.

    Read it again....

.....when you want to criticize someone, remember they might not have had the advantages you had....so true, yet so difficult to apply.
Read this book, whatever time it takes, read it again and again. Take a break, continue :)

    The Great Gatsby - Unputdownable

A book made into films. You have to read to know. The publication is pretty good & the binding even does not look brittle. The seller did a good job. So, if you enjoy reading English Classics, give it a try.

    Very happy

Excellent service. It arrived in 2 days, and was delivered by this guy in a flipkart uniform. The book itself is in excellent condition. Perfectly packaged. I was a little surprised to find that this edition is for students, and it has some extra research notes. But I was relieved to find that the text has not been "simplified" or dumbed down at all. The original text is unaltered and is exactly as Fitzgerald wrote it.

Very pleased, and will start reading now.

    A good read

What made me interested in the book was character highlights of 'Jay Gatsby' (also because of the movie I saw). I must say the book is a good read. Apart from few printing mistakes, I would recommend this book for sure.

    Amazing book. Below average print.

Yes, this is the close to perfect portrayal of the 20s socialite lifestyle. However, I won't review the book as much I I review the quality of the paper and print.
You can find much better editions by different publishers. This one isn't the best you can get. If you're in for the story, it's an amazing read. But if you want it to be part of a collection, go for another copy because this print is inferior.
