Not the poverty-stricken and often juvenile ragpickers people encounter in their daily lives, but a picker of human rags - people discarded by society and dejected by their own lack of self-worth.

About Og Mandino

Og Mandino was born Augustine Mandino II in Massachusetts, and he was a popular American author of self-help books.

His other books include The Greatest Secret In The World, The Choice, The God Memorandum, A Better Way To Live, The Greatest Mystery In The World, and The Greatest Success In The World. All these books elaborate on the different aspects of his philosophy.

Through his books, Mandino primarily conveyed his thoughts on how every human being should recognize the miracle of life and learn to deal with their daily affairs with grace and confidence. His simple style of writing contributed to his success, with his books having sold over fifty million copies. They have also been translated into twenty-five languages.

Mandino’s mother died before he could attend university, so he decided join the United States Army Air Corps, where he enrolled as a military officer and bombardier. He took over close to thirty bombing missions over Germany during World War II. After his military duties, unable to find further work in the field of his choice, he became an insurance salesman, becoming an alcoholic soon thereafter due to the nature of his job. When his first wife and child left him, he was close to suicide, but sought for comfort and help through books on success, motivation, and philosophy from the local libraries. He eventually started writing, and his first book was the instant bestseller, The Greatest Salesman in The World, which was published in the year 1968. Mandino later married a women called Bette in the year 1957, and retired at the age of 52. He died in the year 1996, at the age of 72, in Antrim, New Hampshire.
