Is it a love story with a mystery woven in or is it a mystery novel with a strong romance flowing through it?
I like to think of it as a mystery wrapped in a romance. If you have read 'The Mute Anklet' by Radhika Nathan, you will know what I mean.

The mumurs of the "mute" anklet
The author keeps the reader engaged with vivid descriptions and interesting facts from history.
I must say I disliked the heroine Uma from the very beginning, but was close to being in love with the hero Ashton. Proof of strong characterization I guess. The story progressed somewhat on a Bollywood movie mode where there is a "love-hate-love-miss you-hate you-can't live without you" relationship on between the lead actors. At points it was predictable and at some others there were interesting...

Captivating!
"The anklet was thick,stiff and made of iron..." the very first words of this novel is a promise for an intriguing story.
The Mute anklet is a wonderful book that takes you back to the times before the British Raj. Beautiful descriptions, complex characters and an action packed storyline , this Book is the full package.
From the landscapes to the food, South India is depicted beautifully!

Good read...
From the very start, we have a suspenseful novel and rather deliciously the suspense is kept till the very end. The author - Radhika - has an interesting style which captures a lot of the flavour of those times and yet keeps the reader on edge - wondering where the story will take him or her. Without doubt, the author's imagination takes us to those forts, the battle field and equally to the lovely conversations between the important characters in the plot. An Interesting Story
The Mute anklet, an intriguing story which keeps the reader engaged throughout the read. The story is a mix of suspense and romance set in an entirely different era. The book is an excellent debut by the Author Radhika Nathan, looking forward to the next book.
