Jaishankar Prasad (1889–1937) was a renowned Hindi poet, playwright, novelist, and short story writer, considered one of the “Chhayavaad” era’s four literary pillars. Born in Varanasi, he initially wrote in Braj and later shaped modern Hindi literature with his refined style. His works reflect themes of nationalism, social reform, philosophy, and deep human emotions. Apart from poetry, he made lasting contributions through plays like Skandagupta, Chandragupta, and stories like Gunda.
