I started with the Hadoop Definitive Guide but found it a bit difficult with getting started on Hadoop. A friend recommended me to start with this book first and then move on to Hadoop Definitive Guide. I am currently reading this book and find it really useful to not only understand complex topics like map reduce but also putting it in practice. I recommend it for people who are planning to learn hadoop on their own.

Simple in language. Very good book for hadoop beginner. It gives a good head start though we can not use it as reference book. But book is written in a simple language and provides real life example to clear basic concepts.

Must Buy for Hadoop Beginners.

I would not recommend this book for beginners coz the language is a bit hard to understand and also it do not start or you can say cover all the basic in a very good way as done in Hadoop The definitive Guide.
