Its a decent book for 1st timers in music. If you don't have a clue about music theory or staff notations(something many amateurs have trouble with), this book will give you a fair idea of what you need to know.
The one thing I do appreciate about this book is that it treats the subject of music in a very guitar centric manner and starts right from the fundamentals of music so complete tyro's will also be able to use it well.

I was learning Music theory and I was finding it hard to get a reference for fret numbers on the staff sheet. This book solved my problem with the first chapter itself. The rest of the book is a treasure of information every guitarist must have.
