A first of its kind. Makes for an interesting read. Although it was meant more for kids especially young adolescents, it can be lapped up and enjoyed by a much older and wider bunch of readers. A rather believable account of a young boy stranded for months on a lonely island.

I liked this book a lot. It describes the struggle for survival of a boy stranded on a lone island with a hatchet and a will. The book describes about how he is reduced to a single instinct and that is survival. Apart from the marvellous storyline it conveys a message that we all should imbibe : in this materialistic world we have lost the ability to work with nature, we have to learn it and it the sole way we can live and most importantly survive.

Actually I finished the book today.. not only it helped me but it also inspired me by Brian Robeson's will power and never give up attitude.. Uncountable love, respect and thanks to Gary Paulsen
