Emperor: The Gods Of War is the fourth book in the Emperor series, and revolves around the attempts of Julius Caesar to capture the Roman empire.

    Summary Of The Book

The Gods Of War begins with the journey of Julius Caesar towards Rome, where he desires to overthrow Pompey’s rule as a dictator. During his journey to Rome, Caesar experiences a bit of resistance from the veterans of Gaul, however, he manages to escape without a single man being killed. The pace at which Caesar journeys towards Rome gives Pompey the frights, who then escapes to Greece. This leaves Rome free of any ruler, and Caesar takes over, appointing Mark Anthony as the governor.

This step taken by Caesar leaves his lifelong friend Marcus Brutus in utter disgust, who later betrays Caesar by teaming up with Pompey. This left Caesar shocked, and disappointed. Caesar decides to make his way up to Greece, along with his army to fight against Pompey, who is extremely ill. Due to his illness, Pompey makes a number of mistakes, and eventually loses the battle. Caesar finds Brutus injured on the battlefield, and chooses to forgive him, which angered Caesar’s nephew. Pompey flees to Asia Minor, and then to Alexandria, where he is killed by the boy-king Ptolemy XIII, which angers Caesar.

During his time at Egypt, Caesar meets Cleopatra, who is the sister of the king, and queen of Egypt. Caesar, and Cleopatra have a child together, naming him Ptolemy Caesarion. Caesar takes the child, and mother back to Rome, and declares his intent of devising an empire, and ruling the world as king. However, the citizens were not pleased with the decision, as they expected a Roman Republic, after being under the dictatorship rule of Pompey, and Cornelius Sulla. Does Caesar succeed in his attempt to rule the world? This book answers these questions and more.
