Sada Sharanam - a tribute to the guru and composer, Shri Ravikiran, aims to encapsulate some of the scintillating pieces of the master composer through a book with notation. This book features 40 compositions that cover various genres such as tana varnams, pada varnams, krtis and tillanas. Ravikiran (www.ravikiranmusic.com), hailed as an unprecedented phenomenon when he made his debut at the age of two (in 1969) with an uncanny ability to identify and demonstrate 325 ragas and 175 talas and answer numerous other technical questions posed by several stalwarts, gave his first vocal concert at five and first chitravina recital at the age of 12 and is today, one of the most sought after artistes in the world. The substance and quality of Ravikiran's contribution in the versatile roles of chitravina virtuoso, composer, vocalist, guru and author are held in the highest regard across the world. Chitravina Ravikiran's compositions cover a wide range of ragas, talas and musical forms such as varnam, krti, tillana, javali, padam, viruttam and bhajan in five languages (Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi). He was the first to compose in each one of the 35 talas of Carnatic music. He has explored several interesting concepts such as thematic svaraksharas and innovative musical forms such as svara-krti. He has also composed hundreds of pallavis, spontaneously, minutes before rendering them in concerts. A natural choice to compose for dance productions in various countries, Ravikiran has created several internationally acclaimed operas such as Lakshmi Prabhavam, Savitri, Vinayaka Vaibhavam, Cosmos and Trinity.
