Ferdinand P. Beer earned an M.S. from the Sorbonne and an Sc.D. in theoretical mechanics from the University of Geneva. After serving in the French army during WWII, he taught at Williams College and later joined Lehigh University, where he served for 37 years in roles such as University Distinguished Professor and Department Chair. In 1995, he received an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Lehigh.
E. Russel Johnston earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Delaware and an Sc.D. in structural engineering from MIT. He taught at Lehigh University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute before joining the University of Connecticut, where he chaired the Civil Engineering Department and taught for 26 years. In 1991, he was honored with the Outstanding Civil Engineer award by the Connecticut Section of ASCE.

Brian P.
