Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks are formulated from series of soluble dyes in a superior shellac solution. These inks can be applied with brush, dip pen or airbrush and are widely used by designers, calligraphers and artists as well as illustrators. These brilliant colours are fully intermixable, and they are easily diluted with distilled water and can overlay different colours for new effects and shades. These are fast drying, water resistant and transparent and have excellent adhesion on most surfaces. The Inks are extremely vibrant with unrivalled strength of colour and brilliance. Colour intensity tends to be stronger in dye-based inks and the shellac binder leaves a brilliant sheen to the colours.
Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks are all water resistant apart from Liquid Indian Ink, Gold and Silver. However, all the coloured inks are made from dyes which can bleed out into subsequent washes. The degree of bleeding varies from colour to colour and with the amount of water used.
Drawing inks are made from dyes and are very bright and transparent but most of them fade over time. They are not lightfast except Liquid Indian Ink and Black Indian Drawing Inks which, although not officially classified, are archival which means they are permanent.
All Winsor & Newton Inks are fully intermixable and since most of them are also mixable with water, can easily create a water colour effect. Inks are unsurpassed in strength and brilliance of colour. Except for Liquid Indian Ink, Gold and Silver, all W&N inks are fast drying, water-resistant and transparent. That means it can overlay different colours to create texture and depth
