The ADuM1201 is a 1/1 channel directional dual channel digital isolator based on Analog Devices, Inc., coupler technology, which combines high speed CMOS with monolithic transformer technology and offers superior performance over alternative devices such as optocouplers. I Coupler devices do not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. The simple I Coupler digital interface and stable performance features eliminate the problems of current transfer ratio uncertainty, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects typical of optocouplers. No external drivers and other discrete components are required. With comparable signal data rates, I Coupler devices consume 1/10 to 1/6 the power of optocouplers.
